Behind the Design

This commemorative design celebrates the memory of Lonesome George (Chelonoidis abingdonii), a global symbol of the Galápagos and a powerful reminder of the fragility of island life. The illustration features volcanic rocks, cacti, plants, and elements from his natural environment, including vegetation associated with his diet, all brought together in an earthy color palette that reinforces his connection to the island landscape.

At the top, the design references the former 5,000-sucre banknote, which also featured the Galápagos penguin and the flightless cormorant. This visual detail connects the archipelago’s natural history with Ecuador’s cultural memory. More than a tribute to an extinct species, this design seeks to represent the resilience, uniqueness, and irreplaceable value of Galápagos wildlife, inviting us to remember, reflect, and protect what is still alive.

Our U-shaped travel pillow provides support around the neck and helps you rest your head more comfortably during trips by plane, boat, car, or other forms of transportation.

It is made with a soft, plush polyester fabric that feels comfortable against the skin and features a cushioned filling that provides softness and support while resting.

A front clasp helps keep the pillow closed around the neck and also makes it easy to attach to luggage, while the top elastic loop offers another practical way to hang or carry it.

Each piece is cut, sewn, and finished in our partner artisan workshops led by women, where 593 Origins illustrations are transformed into functional objects designed to accompany new experiences and destinations.

Before publishing the final technical composition, we would only need to confirm the exact material used for the filling.
