Behind the Design

This commemorative design celebrates the memory of Lonesome George (Chelonoidis abingdonii), a global symbol of the Galápagos and a powerful reminder of the fragility of island life. The illustration features volcanic rocks, cacti, plants, and elements from his natural environment, including vegetation associated with his diet, all brought together in an earthy color palette that reinforces his connection to the island landscape.

At the top, the design references the former 5,000-sucre banknote, which also featured the Galápagos penguin and the flightless cormorant. This visual detail connects the archipelago’s natural history with Ecuador’s cultural memory. More than a tribute to an extinct species, this design seeks to represent the resilience, uniqueness, and irreplaceable value of Galápagos wildlife, inviting us to remember, reflect, and protect what is still alive.
Description

An everyday object transformed through design.

Our 18 × 22 cm mousepad combines a comfortable surface for smooth mouse movement with exclusive illustrations inspired by the biodiversity of Galápagos and Ecuador.

Its compact format fits easily into home, office, or study spaces, adding color and personality without taking up too much room.
Materials & Sustainability

Each mousepad features a surface specially prepared to receive our illustrations through digital sublimation.
This process uses heat to integrate the design into the fibers of the surface, allowing vibrant colors, fine details, and high-definition compositions without leaving a rigid layer of ink on top of the material.

The base provides stability during use and helps keep the mousepad in place on the desk.
Impact

We aim to bring biodiversity into the objects that are part of our everyday routines.

Each mousepad transforms a functional desk accessory into a small window into the species and landscapes that inspire 593 Origins.

By designing products intended for frequent and long-term use, we seek to create objects that combine functionality, durability, and a connection with nature.
