Behind the Design

This commemorative design celebrates the memory of Lonesome George (Chelonoidis abingdonii), a global symbol of the Galápagos and a powerful reminder of the fragility of island life. The illustration features volcanic rocks, cacti, plants, and elements from his natural environment, including vegetation associated with his diet, all brought together in an earthy color palette that reinforces his connection to the island landscape.

At the top, the design references the former 5,000-sucre banknote, which also featured the Galápagos penguin and the flightless cormorant. This visual detail connects the archipelago’s natural history with Ecuador’s cultural memory. More than a tribute to an extinct species, this design seeks to represent the resilience, uniqueness, and irreplaceable value of Galápagos wildlife, inviting us to remember, reflect, and protect what is still alive.
Description

A lightweight, versatile tubular accessory designed for travel, outdoor activities, and everyday use.

Its seamless construction provides a smooth, comfortable feel against the skin, while the flexible fabric allows it to adapt easily to different uses. It can be worn as a neck gaiter, partial face covering, headband, or styled in different ways depending on the activity.

The design is printed using sublimation technology, creating vibrant colors and detailed artwork that become part of the fabric itself.

Made from a continuous tubular fabric, creating a piece without side seams for greater comfort when worn around the neck or head.

The artwork is reproduced using digital sublimation, a process that integrates color directly into the fabric fibers through heat and pressure. This allows for detailed illustrations and vibrant colors while maintaining a soft surface without a rigid layer of ink.

Each piece is carefully finished as part of our local textile production.

Impact

Our textile production works with women-led community workshops, where we seek to create fairly paid employment, strengthen local skills, and distribute the opportunities generated by our production more equitably.
