Island Spirit

Born of Fire & Ocean

Galápagos is an extraordinary archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, born from fire and shaped by the sea. Volcanoes, craters, black lava, and crystal-clear waters form a landscape where terrestrial and marine life come together in a way that is difficult to compare with anywhere else on the planet.

Beneath the surface lies another universe. Sharks, rays, sea turtles, fish, whales, dolphins, and many other species move through these waters at different times of the year. The marine richness of Galápagos turns the archipelago into a true natural sanctuary, where every dive, boat ride, or walk along the coast can reveal something unexpected.

On land, millions of years of isolation and evolution gave rise to an extraordinary number of unique species. Finches, mockingbirds, giant tortoises, iguanas, and birds that changed their behavior and characteristics to adapt to the conditions of each island are part of an evolutionary story that forever changed the way we understand nature. Charles Darwin’s visit to Galápagos would later become an important part of the development of his ideas on evolution.

Inspired by islands that changed the way we see nature

The flora tells its own story. Opuntias, palo santo, Darwin’s cotton, miconias, Scalesias, ferns, and plants adapted to extreme conditions change with altitude, humidity, and the seasons. Within just a few kilometers, an arid landscape of cactus and volcanic rock can turn into a lush, humid forest. The archipelago is made up of large islands, smaller islands, islets, and rocks scattered across the Pacific. On Santa Cruz, San Cristóbal, Isabela, and Floreana, communities from different regions of Ecuador have gradually shaped a unique island culture, deeply connected to the ocean, fishing, tourism, and conservation.

Walking through Galápagos creates a feeling that is difficult to explain: animals continuing their lives just a few meters away, birds that do not immediately flee from our presence, giant tortoises slowly crossing the landscape, and sea lions resting by the shore. Here, humans and wildlife share space in a way that demands respect, distance, and a different way of observing.

Pirates, navigators, whalers, scientists, and travelers explored these islands for centuries. Today, much of this territory is protected as Galápagos National Park and the Galápagos Marine Reserve, making it one of the world’s great references for conservation.

Island Spirit is our interpretation of the place where 593 Origins began: a world of lava, ocean, evolution, and extraordinary life that still has the power to surprise us every day
